Van Ryt Industries was founded in 2016 by Ben Van Ryt — a qualified carpenter who saw an opportunity to bring genuine craft and end-to-end care to commercial playground manufacturing in Western Australia. What started as a landscaping and carpentry business soon grew into a specialist playground manufacturer. Today, VRI is known across WA for bespoke, custom-crafted timber play equipment.
Our team designs, fabricates, and installs custom playground equipment from our O’Connor workshop, using West Australian Jarrah hardwood, structural steel, marine-grade stainless hardware, and UV-stabilised commercial rope. Because we build everything in-house, we can minimise disruption on site. Our in-house design team also means clients get full confidence in quality before installation begins.
We operate a dual service model: full design, manufacture, and installation for projects across Perth and WA — or supply-only nationally, with complete installation documentation for every order. Founder and lead Rope Man, Ben leads our passionate and skilled team at Van Ryt Industries. With 20-plus years’ construction experience as a qualified carpenter, he founded the business in 2016. His vision was simple: bring genuine craft to commercial playground manufacturing in Perth.
As a hands-on director, Ben says he’s living his dream job. He works alongside a hardworking team of craftsmen who design, build, and install bespoke playground equipment across WA. Above all, he credits the team for building Van Ryt’s respected reputation.
When he’s not on the tools, Ben loves nothing more than getting away with family and friends — preferably somewhere outdoors that features a little mountain biking.
With 12-plus years’ experience as an award-winning Landscape Architect, Luke is our resident playground designer and creative thinker. He works closely with the team to create fun, challenging play spaces for children and vibrant community playgrounds. In particular, his background in landscape architecture brings a natural, site-responsive approach to every custom playground design project. A keen surfer and outdoor explorer, Luke draws endless inspiration from the natural environment.
Hardworking and generous, with nearly two decades’ experience in construction and landscape, Owen is our workshop head honcho. Based at our O’Connor workshop, he oversees the day-to-day manufacturing of every piece of playground equipment. As a passionate team leader, he sets out to deliver outstanding customer service time and again. He says the secret is the people that make up our team — which also makes coming to work a pleasure.
Dependable and laid-back, with both practical and technical industry experience, Ainsley heads up our Jarrah playground fabrication team. Describing it as his ‘dream role’, he enjoys the mixture of creativity and strong teamwork that makes Van Ryt Industries unique. Before joining VRI, he was WA Trainer and Technical Specialist for Makita. As a result, he knows his stuff — and exactly what it takes to produce quality timber playground equipment.
A valued member of our in-house playground design team, Aaron brings nearly three decades’ experience in building and construction design. In particular, his background spans residential, commercial, landscape, and sustainability markets. He’s a draftsperson by trade with a passion for forward-thinking projects that deliver sustainable play spaces. Whether it’s getting up to Wedge Island or cruising the Dutch canals, Aaron is the ultimate family man.
