Inspira Kids Lakelands: An Early Learning Playground Collaboration

Creating a truly inspiring and engaging environment for young minds is at the heart of every great early learning centre. For the new Inspira Kids Early Learning Centre in Lakelands, this vision was transformed into a stunning reality. Van Ryt Industries was honoured to partner with the visionary landscape architects at Plan E and the expert team at Deep Green Landscaping to supply and install a landmark custom early learning playspace WA that sets a new benchmark for imaginative play.

This project is a testament to VRI’s core philosophy: turning ambitious designs into tangible, high-quality realities. Our team's design-build expertise was put to the test to bring Plan E's incredible concepts to life, resulting in a playspace that seamlessly blends thematic adventure with crucial developmental opportunities.

Setting Sail: A Bespoke Shipwreck Adventure

The undeniable centrepiece of the Lakelands playspace is the magnificent custom ship playground. Based on an original concept by Plan E, this structure is a brilliant example of true landscape architect playground collaboration. Our team of specialist craftspeople in our O’Connor workshop meticulously translated the design, fabricating a large, bespoke timber ship that appears "broken" into two distinct bow and stern sections.

Crafted with random-cut boards to perfectly emulate a rustic shipwreck feel, the vessel is a hub of activity. It features multiple climbing challenges, including both colourful and timber climbing holds, and is crowned with a vibrant slide that exits over a rubber softfall embankment. This custom structure showcases VRI’s ability to execute complex, one-of-a-kind designs that meet rigorous Australian safety standards without compromising on the design's creative integrity.

Fostering Imagination and Sensory Play

In addition to the large ship, the playspace is rich with elements designed to foster imaginative role-play and sensory development—two cornerstones of early childhood education. We fabricated and installed a "village" of custom imaginative play items, including a "Fish Shop" and "Bike Shop," these shop fronts, provide the perfect backdrop for children to build social skills and create their own narratives.

This imaginative hub is complemented by a range of our most popular sensory and nature play items. The inclusion of the 771-XYL - Xylophone and 773-DDR - Djembe Drum introduces musical and auditory exploration to the environment. These are woven into the landscape using our classic 001-STU - Stepping Stumps and 005-LOG - Log elements, creating natural, free-flowing paths of travel that encourage balance, coordination, and non-prescriptive play.

This project was a stellar example of our "Supply and Install" service, showcasing a seamless partnership between the landscape architect (Plan E), the landscaping contractor (Deep Green Landscaping), and our in-house team of designers and craftspeople. As a WA-based manufacturer, we take immense pride in using sustainably sourced local timbers and materials to build equipment that is not only beautiful but durable enough to withstand the harsh WA climate.
