The Bayswater Hotel ” The Baysie”

Playground Meets Pub!

The Bayswater Hotel, a beloved local institution since 1898, has unveiled a revitalized transformation and is now a must-visit destination for families. Known affectionately as “The Baysie,” this iconic pub reopened in October 2024 after an extensive renovation.

The recent refurbishment, led by our client Bayco, has unveiled a transformation like no other. Van Ryt Industries were engaged to design, supply and install a captivating play space for children of all ages and abilities.

The brief was to deliver a playground with a pub, from when patrons arrive on the street or disembark from the train station across the road from the hotel, they are confronted with a striking 9-meter+ tower that rises through the courtyard above the building, offering a dramatic focal point and draw card from the street. The tower is complemented by a massive tube slide that extends from the top floor, providing a thrilling experience for the thrill seekers.

The design also aimed to celebrate and extend the streetscape by incorporating custom-designed, themed play equipment that echoes the surrounding urban environment. Given the limited space available, the project focused on utilising the vertical surfaces and adjacent walls as interactive play features, maximizing the use of the area while ensuring safety and accessibility.

The space needed to accommodate a large number of people, so careful consideration was given to circulation, access points, and safety fall zones. Despite the constraints, the design made efficient use of the available space, incorporating elements that would engage visitors of all ages.

Timeframe restrictions posed another challenge, but VRI’s ability to manage resources and coordinate between design, construction, and installation ensured the project was delivered on schedule. The installation of the massive tower within such a confined space in a built-up area, complete with surrounding trees, required careful planning and execution. However, the process was made smoother by the expertise of our skilled installation team, who utilised cranes to position the structure with precision.

Additionally, the design had to account for existing services and infrastructure on the site. VRI worked around these complexities, ensuring the final result not only met the project’s objectives but also adhered to safety regulations and integrated harmoniously with the surrounding environment.
