Growing Together: A Case Study in School Playground Equipment Perth

The ultimate test of any playground supplier is not the first installation—it’s the invitation to return for the second.

In 2022, Van Ryt Industries (VRI) worked with McCorkell Constructions to deliver the foundational "Stage 1" Junior & Senior play spaces for the newly constructed Dayton Primary School. It was a significant project involving custom timber structures designed to withstand the WA climate and daily use by hundreds of students.

Fast forward to 2026. The school has grown, and so has their need for play. Having experienced the enduring quality of their original equipment firsthand, Dayton Primary returned directly to VRI to design and install "Stage 2."

Why Schools Choose VRI for Stage 2 (and Beyond)
This project highlights the two critical factors that drive our partnerships with WA schools: proven longevity and the ability to integrate new stages seamlessly.

When we arrived to install the new equipment, the original Stage 1 structures were standing strong after two years of intense use. These foundational items included:

After two years of daily use and exposure to the WA climate, the original structures have proven their worth. This firsthand experience of our quality play equipment made choosing VRI for Stage 2 an easy decision.

Stage 2: Strategic Expansion & Infill
For the 2026 expansion, the brief wasn't just to add "more stuff." We needed to strategically extend the play value of the existing zones.

The Junior Playspace: Creating a Circuit

The goal here was to activate the area around the existing Beavis Platform. Rather than standalone items, we installed a series of interconnected balance and climbing challenges that linked directly to the platform. This created a continuous flow for the students to navigate:

The Senior Playspace: Increasing the Challenge
In the Upper School area, the focus was on delivering a high-impact imaginative play element supported by age-appropriate physical challenges. We transformed this zone by installing the spectacular Sunken Ship, a customisable play element that serves as the visual centerpiece of the new expansion. This structure isn't just about climbing; it creates an immersive thematic environment that captures the students' imaginations immediately.

Surrounding this centerpiece, we integrated active play elements to provide additional challenges for the senior students:

Seamless Integration for Growing Campuses
One of the challenges for Landscape Architects and Principals is ensuring that new equipment doesn't look out of place next to existing structures. Because VRI designs and manufactures locally in O'Connor, we were able to match the quality, materials, and aesthetic style of the 2022 installation perfectly to complement the 2026 additions.
